CDS/LIMS Integration Relieves Compliance Risk
at Leading Nutrient Manufacturer
Presenter:
Dr. Panna Chaudhari, Director of Technical
Affairs at Fortitech, Inc.
Fortitech, Inc. is the world leader in the
development of custom nutrient systems for the food, beverage and
pharmaceutical industries. The company custom formulates more than
12,000 ingredient blends from a comprehensive selection of vitamins,
minerals, amino acids, nucleotides, nutraceuticals and other
specialty ingredients. The burgeoning task of managing and
documenting ingredient blend quality procedures, invoked an
initiative to fully automate lab operations.
In 2002 Fortitech selected and implemented
StarLIMS™ as its lab automation platform and was one of the first
sites to apply the recently released Millennium32/StarLIMS
Interface. This interface enables scientists and technical staff to
seamlessly move electronic records between Millennium32 and StarLIMS
without generating any additional non-controlled files. This is a
superior enhancement for labs complying with 21 CFR Part 11
requirements encompassing security; data integrity, traceability,
and audit trail generation.
The presentation will examine the issues leading
to Fortitech’s decision to implement an integrated CDS/LIMS
solution, describe the workflow before and after the implementation
while accentuating the impact of the STARLIMS/Millennium32
integration on productivity and compliance risk.

Partner Workshop: The STARLIMS Interface
Yields One Stop Scientific Data Management
An optimal LIMS/CDS interface is one that
supports secure bi - directional communication between the two
applications and is flexible enough allowing users to decide where
to place workflow and calculation actions (LIMS or CDS). For
instance, certain procedures will allow transparent (automatic)
signoff on the Millennium/Empower side, while other situations will
determine whether the analyst is given an opportunity to review the
results on the LIMS side and decide which results set should be
designated for further processing.
The workshop will examine the critical role of an evolved CDS/LIMS
interface accomplished by the joint effort of Waters and L.i.M.S.
enabling scientists and technical staff to seamlessly move
electronic records between Millennium32 / Empower and STARLIMS.
The topics and solutions demonstrated are based
on a case study at Fortitiech, Inc. and include:
