A
laboratory's relationship to clients and other outside entities
sometimes defines the workflow and deliverables. Where a lab is serving
multiple clients, each having unique sampling or reporting requirements,
the needs of each sample within a production workflow differ. The
inclination to process analyses in a parallel fashion is driven by time
and cost considerations and will remain a factor in a high throughput
lab. The ability to include samples with unique requirements and without
in the same process is valuable to a laboratory where throughput is
critical. Tools to facilitate handling samples in a unified process,
while meeting the individual requirements of unique samples, are the
hallmark of a valuable LIMS.
STARLIMS
segments laboratory workflow that allows multiple types of samples
logged in as part of completely separate workflows, to be batched
together whenever possible. Samples may have common needs in the areas
of analysis and container storage and preservation, but completely
distinct needs when it comes to capturing sample details at login and
during reporting. Client specific requirements oftentimes are the
definitive source of workflow logic. Maintaining these requirements on a
per-client basis adds value to a LIMS system by virtue of decreased
labor and increased accuracy.
STARLIMS new myLIMS.com module is an Intranet/Extranet application
directly coupled with the STARLIMS database. The application when
installed in an Intranet/Extranet setting, allows the lab’s clients to
view analytical services provided by the lab, such as tests and price
lists, view samples status, print COAs, invoices and more.
In
contract lab scenarios STARLIMS facilitates comprehensive Customer
Relationship Management (CRM). Labs operating in service environments
are pressed to deliver services, which are increasingly personalized, to
the client.
