STARLIMS at the National Dutch Phytopathological Service

Alkmaar, The Netherlands, (February, 2001) - The national Dutch phytopathological service (Plantenziektenkundige Dienst - PD) in Wageningen announced that it went successfully “live” with its new StarLIMS system. The newly implemented LIMS records data and information related to the inspection of plant material in the Netherlands as well as plant material destined for importation or exportation. In addition, the software registers diagnostic data used by the Bacteriology, Entomology, Mycology, Nematology and Virology groups.

This prestigious LIMS project carried out by the Plantenziektenkundige Dienst (PD) is an outcome of a European tender in which the PD selected StarLIMS™.  The project, awarded at the end of June 2000 involves a total investment of more than five hundred thousand Euros. The project was implemented with the support of L.i.M.S.' local support and sales located in Alkmaar. The Alkmaar office employs 12 StarLIMS consultants serving the group's operations in the Netherlands.
According to Ing. Gert Romeijn, a member of the LIMS project group at the PD, the chosen software scored highest in flexibility and versatility. This is essential as the required functionality extends beyond that of the laboratory. Furthermore, the multi-layered structure concept of StarLIMS appears to be the most economically viable solution in a rapidly developing area.

About the Plantenziektenkundige Dienst (PD)

With approximately 1,200 employees the PD carries out special programmes, which aim to monitor, prevent or eliminate the presence of particular diseases and pests. In this regard, the field service inspects businesses, locations or specific plants in accordance with specific procedures. In the case of importation or exportation, the service assesses whether the material conforms to the requirements of the destination country.
