PABME is an exclusive conference and exhibition platform that brings together biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies from Europe, North and South America, Asia Pacific and The MENA regions to converge, network, and explore unprecedented business opportunities. Dr. Simon Wood, Executive Director of Marketing and Education at STARLIMS, will present a talk in the "Facilities Design, Upgrade and Expansion" track on Tuesday 29th April. The abstract is below:

Laboratory Informatics - A Key Element of Facilities Design within the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Manufacturing Industry. When designing a new manufacturing facility, or redesigning an existing facility, it is not surprising that much emphasis is laced on the physical infrastructure required. However at the design phase it is just as important to ensure that the software systems will be in place that will support the manufacturing process and help ensure the product meets all quality and regulatory requirements. It is also important to ensure that all the software systems that will be in place are integrated as necessary and that it is possible to manage the data and information generated within the facility in an effective manner. This presentation will concentrate on LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems), one of the key software elements of any integrated manufacturing system, and the role it plays helping manage the manufacturing and QA/QC process. It will cover integration of LIMS with other software systems that will exist within the facility such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) as well as other systems that may exist within the QA/QC laboratory such as Chromatography Data Systems (CDS). How LIMS can support Regulatory Requirements will also be discussed together with the role of LIMS in integrating other QA information such as environmental parameters to provide a complete picture of the manufacturing process and environment. Finally the way in which a fully integrated LIMS and Scientific Document Management System can help manage all the data and information generated and used within the facility, including Certificates of Analysis, Standard Operating Procedures and Product pecifications will be outlined.

Food Safety, Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center, Chicago, April 30-May 1, 2008
