Core LIMS
Functionality Published as Web
Services
STARLIMS Web Services Framework enables enterprises to utilize core LIMS
functionality without the need to develop specific interfaces between the
LIMS and enterprise systems. This is achieved by publishing (aka
"exposing") LIMS functionality running sample tracking, results entry and
quality analysis as industry standard Web Services.
A Web
Service is a software system, whose public interfaces are described using
XML, thus allowing other software systems to discover its definition and
usage. Web Services interact between themselves using XML based messages.
Web-service based LIMS functionality, can be controlled and consumed by
arbitrary information systems dependent on laboratory information such as
a procurement system rejecting failed lots of raw material based on lab
inspection results or a logistics system that quarantines a failed batch
of finished goods suspected of contamination.
In the
long term, the ongoing costs associated with the maintenance and
validation of multiple interfaces is significantly reduced and STARLIMS
traceability functions are readily accessible throughout the supply chain.
